RECOGNIZING ADHD

Signs it may be time for an evaluation

ADHD looks different in every child — and it often looks different in girls than boys, in younger children than teens, and in school settings versus home. Many families wait years before seeking an evaluation, often because the signs don't fit the stereotypical picture of a hyperactive child bouncing off the walls.

If you're recognizing patterns in your child — or in yourself — a comprehensive evaluation can provide the clarity and direction your family needs.

  • In Children & Teens

  • Difficulty staying focused on tasks or schoolwork

  • Frequently losing things — homework, belongings, track of time

  • Impulsive decisions or blurting out answers

  • Struggles to wait their turn or follow multi-step instructions

  • Appears not to listen even when spoken to directly

  • Difficulty starting or finishing tasks

  • Excessive fidgeting, restlessness, or "always on the go"

  • Poor organization and time management

  • Emotional dysregulation — big reactions to small frustrations

  • Teachers reporting the same concerns year after year

  • In Adults

  • Chronic difficulty meeting deadlines or staying organized

  • Frequently forgetting appointments or commitments

  • Starting many projects but rarely finishing them

  • Racing thoughts or difficulty slowing the mind

  • Hyperfocus on interesting tasks, near-impossible to focus on others

  • Relationship strain from forgetfulness or impulsivity

  • History of underachievement despite high intelligence

  • Difficulty managing finances or household responsibilities

  • Emotional sensitivity or quick to frustration

  • Lifelong feeling of "trying harder than everyone else"

WHATS INCLUDED

A thorough evaluation — not a quick checklist

01

Comprehensive ADHD Evaluation

Our ADHD assessment goes far beyond a brief rating scale. We build a complete picture of your child's or your own cognitive profile — understanding not just whether ADHD is present, but how it presents, what's driving it, and what support will actually help.

Clinical intake interview (approx. 1 hour)

Cognitive ability & processing speed test

Attention, memory, & working memory issues

Executive functioning assessment

Parent, teacher & self-report behavior scales

Mood & anxiety screening

Written report with diagnosis & recommendations

Feedback Session with Dr. McKinzie

02

Screening for Co-Occurring Conditions

ADHD rarely travels alone. Our evaluation screens for anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, and mood disorders that frequently co-occur with ADHD — conditions that can look like ADHD, mask it, or make it significantly harder to treat if missed.
This is one of the most important reasons to choose a psychologist over a brief pediatric screening.

03

School-Informed Recommendations

Dr. McKinzie's dual clinical and school psychology background means your report doesn't just diagnose — it translates directly into actionable recommendations for IEP or 504 accommodations, classroom strategies, and educational support that schools can actually implement depending on educational impact.

04

Feedback & Next Steps

Once your report is ready, Dr. McKinzie meets with you to walk through findings in plain language — including any diagnosis, your child's cognitive strengths, and a clear, individualized roadmap for moving forward. You'll leave with answers, not more questions.

WHY DR. MCKINZIE

Why choose a specialist for ADHD testing

Clinical + School Psychology — Both

Most psychologists are trained in one domain. Dr. McKinzie holds dual licensure as both a clinical psychologist and a nationally certified school psychologist — understanding ADHD as it manifests in the therapy room, the classroom, and at home. This is especially rare and especially useful for school-age children.

Reports Schools & Providers Can Use

A well-written evaluation report is one of the most powerful advocacy tools a family can have. Dr. McKinzie's reports are thorough, clearly written, and directly actionable — giving schools, pediatricians, and other providers exactly what they need to support your child.

Strengths-Based, Not Just Deficit-Focused

Dr. McKinzie's dual training as both a clinical and school psychologist means she understands the classroom as deeply as the therapy room — a rare and genuinely useful edge.
